Short summary
Life is a cycle and during our lives, we all experience pain, loss, and grief. The devastation has a habit of robbing you of everything you believe yourself to be, but you can choose to let it own you, or you can work your way through it, towards a future that although different, can still be positive.
Rachel Hollis, New York Times bestselling author of “Girl, Wash Your Face”, has been through her fair share of loss and grief. In fact, three days after editing this very book, her marriage ended and everything changed. Somehow she got up and carried on. She wants you to do the same.
Through kind words, practical advice, and plenty of motivation, “Didn’t See That Coming” is a book everyone needs to read.
Whenever you encounter a negative situation in life, be it a death, a relationship breakup, losing a job, or anything else which causes you to feel like your world has been turned upside down, it’s very easy to feel like you’ve lost sight of who you are.
Perhaps the most difficult part of enduring something in life which literally changes your view of the world is that you become someone different, someone new. You might not realize it at the time, but every situation we deal with in life changes us in some way. The problem is, you’re still trying to work through what has happened but you’re also trying to identify who you are in the here and now. It’s like your perception of the world has changed and the one thing that anchored you down, i.e. the comfort in knowing yourself, has gone. This causes what Rachel Hollis refers to as an “identity crisis”.
Difficult situations in life often change small parts of our personalities. This doesn’t mean you have lost your identity, it means you’re growing.
This can be because something has been taken away from you, something has been denied you, or you’ve decided that what you have isn’t something you want anymore. The truth is that no matter what has happened to you, you are still you. Sure, small parts of you may have changed because you’ve been through a difficult time, but at your core you’re still the person you’ve always been. Nobody can take your identity from you and the situation you’ve been through doesn’t define you.
Identity literally means being who or what you are. And you get to choose that. ~ Rachel Hollis
You are about so much more than what you’re dealing with or what you’ve been through. For example, perhaps you’ve been diagnosed with a life-changing illness; you’re more than a patient. The only person who is allowed to define who you are is you.
It’s important to understand that our identities do change a little over time as we learn and grow. Whilst those changes can be a little awkward or confusing at times, it’s important to see growth as something positive, whilst taking heart from the fact that who you see yourself as and your core values will always remain the same.
We change during our lifetimes, it’s part of evolution. But, that doesn’t mean your identity has been taken away. Simply be true to yourself.

Headway is the answer! No longer accumulating books I never read. With Headway, I initially chose the areas important to me such as productivity, time management, etc., and each day I'm provided several book summaries from which I devote 20 minutes or more each day reading. All of this on my phone! My life has improved with Headway. Truly my most useful app.

An excellent concept, executed well. Headway can help you retain what you've read while introducing you to the essential core of new information. It's an easier way to stay inspired, and to be reminded of the mental tools you've learned

In today’s world, we rarely have time. Between our jobs, our families are social obligations, when do we have time to grow and develop ourselves? Headway is an excellent app that gives you that time it gives you those little snippets of information that you need to direct your focus in on your life. Headway gives you a chance to find out the meat of a book that you might want to purchase and read or listen to in-depth without wasting a lot of time trying to figure out is this book for me? I highly recommend the app.

I've gotten multiple books out of the library with the intent to read them, but always have a hard time finding the time. This app has helped me finally be able to get to them. Summarized, yes, and thank goodness too! Just short enough I can finish one on my way picking kids up from school/practice, or while I'm cooking dinner. I can't wait to listen to them over the summer when we visit the beach!

It amazed me! There is the possibility to highlight the most important points of each book and instantly translate unfamiliar vocabulary. With the ability to review the searched words. It's a great way to learn more about English as well. The price is great.

I’m enjoying what I’m learning on headway.each summary comes with quotes at the end which you can save to help you remember key points. You can listen or read, I’ve found that reading puts me to sleep before I can finish but the listening feature keeps me engaged and I can finish in a brief amount of time if not one session.

Exactly what I need! I always have booklist to read, but can't committed enough to finish/start bc of too much pages. Headway is really helpful and concise with their summary. What I love the most is that the essence of the book is well crafted, so I don't only read the key points, but also there's the story and how personality of the author still well shown through the summary. Well done!
